The One That Shall Not Be Named

Back in 2021 my husband and I had an experience with a particular virus that caused a full on ruckus in our bodies.  The symptoms were all over the place and wasn’t like any illness I’d ever felt before.   For a full week, my body ached, I had erratic fevering, a complete aversion to food, and even my mind felt like it was on the fritz… I had wild emotions coming up, fears, anxiety… it felt like about 19 different symptoms all at once.  Thankfully, we both fully recovered and haven’t experienced it again… but this is likely a bug that’s going to make an appearance each season, much like we see with the waves of colds and flus each year.

In addition to all of the support that we can give to our bodies for optimal immune function (nutrient dense food, sunlight, movement, immune modulating herbs as needed, etc), I wanted to create a blend for the humans who find themselves in the throes of the illness process.  There have been several studies done on herbals compounds and you’ll see a few of these in the blend… along with my own additions based on the synergy of the plants themselves coupled with the energetics and constellation of symptoms that we experienced personally.

  • More About the Herbs

Sweet Annie (artemisia annua): The Artemisia Sisters have similarities in energetics and actions against viral pathogens, but shine in their own unique affinities.  Where Wormwood (a. absinthium) has an affinity for the gut, and Mugwort (a. vulgaris) is more akin to reproductive health, Sweet Annie shines in lung & immune health. Being “cool” and “bitter”, she helps to move and dispel heat from the body.

Baical Skullcap (scutellaria baicalensis): Another phenomenal and potent ally, Baical Skullcap has been studied countless times for its action on inhibiting replication of viral pathogens.  It also acts as a synergist with other antiviral herbs (helps to potentiate the overall blend).

Ginko Biloba: This herbal friend offers cognitive support as well as aiding with fatigue in times of viral illness.  Ginko has also been studied in some of the “long haul” brain fog and cognitive symptoms associated with particular viruses.

Turkey Tail: coming to the party with some immune modulating actions to help support the body in times when the immune system might be in overdrive and starting to experience some burn out.  Also helpful for the post-infection phase when we are recalibrating the system and working to “refill the tank”.

Boneset and Yarrow:  This pair helps address the fever and heat within the body.  Boneset helps to relax the tension (both physical and psychological) relieving body aches and muscle pain… and Yarrow helps drive the excess heat to the surface of the skin, to help “break” the fever.

Lobelia: My favorite driver and nervous system modulator.  She works in this formula to relax the body, reset the nervous system, and help to intuitively “drive” the herbs to their respective areas of action within the body.  I have a whole post on Lobelia if you’re interesting in reading more about her magic.
