Standing tall and proud in the arid landscapes of Arizona, the Saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) is a symbol of endurance, resilience, and a connection to the ancestors. With their towering forms and enigmatic presence, these remarkable giants have deep-rooted connections to the region, it’s people, and they embody the essence of the Sonoran Desert.
The Saguaro is believed to possess a spirit or life force. This spirit watches over the land and the people, offering guidance, protection, and blessings. The Saguaro's towering presence is a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the interconnectedness of all living beings.
I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Saguaro and learned to harvest both blossom and fruit (on private land). I spent full several days over the span of a few weeks of harvesting with a dear friend of mine. We brought water offerings and sat with the Saguaros, inviting a dance between our heart frequencies, quietly listening to the response, and honoring the lessons we received. We watched birds create homes in the flesh of the cactus, hummed along to the songs played by the wind rushing through the spines… It was an experience I will carry with me forever and a soul communication with a plant that left a true imprint on my heart.
We cannot speak of the Saguaro without also honoring the Tohono O'odham tribe in Arizona- the Saguaro is a sacred and revered plant and part of many of their traditions, ceremonies, and celebrations. For many generations they have been the students and stewards of the Saguaro, and because of this, proceeds of this honey will be given to them as part of my own reciprocity and deep respect for the work and love they put into caring for these beautiful beings.
You’ll notice that there are no other herbs in this blend. The Saguaro is the medicine.
